The Cha Cha Ballroom Dance Style
One of the styles we offer in our dance lessons
Latin American dance of Cuban origin danced to authentic Latin music, or more contemporary Latin Pop or Rock. This makes the dance quite useful outside of the Ballroom. The Cha Cha (a.k.a. Cha Cha Cha) is danced in both the Latin and American Rhythm ballroom dance styles.
In International Latin style, the weighted leg is straight while the hip action is created. The American Rhythm style of Cha Cha utilized bending and straightening of the knee to create a lot more hip action (giving the appearance of hips that are constantly rolling.)
The name of the dance is derived from the faster steps at beat 1 and 4. By contrast the second and third beats are held longer, giving the dance a nice contrast between slow and fast.
The Cha Cha is always a favorite in both Latin and American Rhythm Ballroom (Dancesport) competitions due to it's flashy and fun character, which allows the dancer to express equal measures of athleticism, emotion and sexiness!
